Montevallo Arts Fest Concert: Gary Motley Jazz Trio

A concert by the Gary Motley Jazz Trio will kick off the 2010 Montevallo Arts Fest on Friday night April 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parnell Memorial Library Theatre. Vocalist Veronica Motley will also appear with the Trio.

A graduate of the University of Montevallo, Gary Motley is one of the most highly regarded jazz pianists in the southeastern United States. He has established a professional association with many of today's leaders in jazz, having worked with artists ranging from Dave Brubeck to Clarke Terry. Gary has been recognized with awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Great American Jazz Piano Competition, and the American Composers Forum. He has also been featured in Downbeat Magazine and on Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland (NPR).

His recording credits range from Russell Malone's Black Butterfly CD to his most recent recording, Renaissance: a Tribute to Oscar Peterson. He has worked with Benny Golson, Eddie Daniels, Carmen Bradford, Kenny Barron, and others. Motley has also performed in venues from Los Angeles to London, including two recent appearances at Carnegie Hall. He is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at Emory University.
