The Alabama Symphony, conducted by musical director Justin Brown, will perform a concert of “Symphonies in C Major”, which will consist of Sibelius’ dramatic one-movement Symphony No. 7 and Schumann's uplifting Symphony No. 2. The community is invited to a free pre-concert talk with Maestro Brown at 1:30 in LeBaron Recital Hall. Tickets for the 2:30 concert may be purchased in advance through the Symphony box office (251-7727), online at http://www.alabamasymphony.org/, or in the College of Fine Arts Dean’s Office (Monday – Friday; 665-6663). Tickets also may be purchased at the door in the lobby of Palmer Auditorium beginning one hour before the performance.

Music Matters in Montevallo
Saturday, November 1, 10:00-2:00, Orr Park,
MontevalloThe Collegiate Music Educator’s National Conference (CMENC) of the University of Montevallo will host the 3rd Annual Music Matters in Montevallo festival on Saturday, November 1, 2008, from 10 am – 2 pm at Orr Park. The event will feature various activities, including Karaoke, face painting, an Instrumental Petting Zoo, Inflatables, and much more. Additionally there will be food, periodic raffle drawings, and live performances by several bands and choirs from local Shelby County Schools. This fundraiser is designed to focus on the importance of music education in Montevallo and Shelby County. A portion of the proceeds will benefit music programs in Shelby County by providing music equipment, sheet music, and many other essential materials
