Sponsored by the Martha Allen Lecture Series and CLS

"On the Edge of Tomorrow and the Politics of Becoming Yesterday: A Tentative History of Contemporary Art"

As practicing artists and historians, how can we discuss with any art historical certainty a history of art based on this moment? What methodologies can we draw upon (or propose) to address a “history” of today, or a history of contemporary art? This talk will focus on a tentative history of recent art – with all the uncertainties, risks, and missteps that tentative entails.

The issues raised should be useful to students interested in social belonging, aesthetics, activism, personal responsibility, political obligation, and/or ethical relations.
